
#10202 Lieutenant Alan Jarvis Hamilton was born in Toronto on 10 August 1893, son of Charles Jarvis Townsend and Anne Josephine Townsend.
He was a clerk and had served in The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada and a member of the 1913 DRA Team before enlisting as a corporal with the 3rd Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force on 22 September 1914.
In November 1915 he was sent for officer training, gazetted Acting Lieutenant the following month, and posted to the 4th Battalion.
Townsend died of wounds 19 September 1916 and is buried in Contay British Cemetery, Somme, France; Grave Reference: II. A. 5.
He had been a member of the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto.
