Rifleman Cecil R. Winterburn was born on 4 June 1922 in Norland, ON.

He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on 26 November 1942 and served with the Canadian Infantry Corps, the Queen’s Own Rifles and the Canadian Scottish Regiment in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe.

He landed with the Canadian Scottish on D-Day, the first day, and second wave and was involved in every battle from France to Holland. He was transferred to The QOR on 15 October 1945.

After his discharge on 6 February 1946, he returned home on the first ship back to Canada.

Rifleman Winterburn passed away on 7 July 2003.
