Chief Warrant Officer John S. Wilmot, CD joined The Queen’s Own Rifles in May 1979.  He was promoted Corporal in April 1980 and participated in mechanized infantry fly-over training with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment in September 1980.  He graduated from the Basic Parachutist course in January 1982 just prior to the Regiment receiving its jump tasking.  Among CWO Wilmot’s other skills, he qualified in November 1983 as an unarmed combat instructor.

One highlight of his parachuting career was making the 49th anniversary jump of Operation Market Garden in Holland in September 1993. As part of this same trip, he earned his British wings jumping from a balloon in Britain.  The achievement CWO Wilmot takes greatest pride in was qualifying as a Jumpmaster in February 1994.  Mr Wilmot earned his American wings during a trip to Fort Bragg, NC in December 1985.  He has held virtually all positions a non-commissioned member can in the Regiment, from section commander to his most recent appointment as Regimental Sergeant Major.  CWO Wilmot has been instrumental in the launching and maintaining of an excellent web-site for the Regiment.

He has been involved with the Pioneers and Skirmishers of the Regiment and participated in the re-enactment of the Battle of Ridgeway in 1991.  He has also conducted commemorative cycling tours of QOR memorials and historic sites. He is employed as a Firefighter in the City of Vaughan.
