Vine, David

Major Dave Vine, QC CD was born on 27 August 1931 in Kitchener, Ontario, the only child of Robert Reid Vine and Susan Eletha Miller.

He attended Kitchener Collegiate Institute, and then his family moved to New Brunswick where he finished high school at Saint John High School. He followed that with studies at the University of New Brunswick and a law degree from Dalhousie.

He practiced law in Toronto for nearly 60 years and made many friends of colleagues and clients. He was awarded a Q.C. early in his career, which was a great source of pride.

David served with several regiments as a young man, but his loyalty remained with the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada where he attained the rank of Major.

He was also a long-time member of the Toronto Board of Trade Club, gladly picking up the mic to host many club events. Always a handyman, he was as quick with his fingers as his tongue. David did renos, fixed most things, and could figure out just about any construction problem. In his early days, he enjoyed boating and socializing, usually combining both. He had a unique sense of humour which left most people confounded but smiling. His routines always included a beer and many a bartender in downtown Toronto misses his reliable presence at the rail.

David died on February 7, 2023, and his remains were interred at a private family ceremony in Burlington.
