Colour Sergeant Joseph E. Thompson enrolled into D Company, Queen’s Own Rifles in May of 1887. He progressed through the ranks being promoted to Sergeant in 1892, and to Colour Sergeant of his Company in 1894. In 1896 he was appointed as Acting Sergeant Major, received his 9 year good service badge and was discharged from service in October of that year.
