Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Vicky Sunohara was a Canadian Olympian and has been a force in Canadian hockey since growing up in Scarborough.

Having spent twelve years on the Canadian National Women’s team, she appeared in 8 International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships, seeing Canada win 7 Gold medals and 1 Silver while playing in forty games.

As an Olympian, Sunohara competed in the 1998 Nagano, 2002 Salt Lak City, and 2006 Turin Olympics, and from these competitions Canada was awarded a Silver and two Gold medals respectively.

As a testament to her leadership through her time with Team Canada, HLCol Sunohara served as the assistant captain. In total she won 15 gold and three silver medals a s member of Canada’s national team, finishing her career with 118 points (56 goals and 62 assists) in 164 games.

She has been inducted into the Brampton Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, the Scarborough Walk of Fame in 2006, was the Ontario Female Athlete of the Year in 2006, and as a member of the 2006 National Women’s Hockey Team was recently inducted into the Toronto Sport Hall of Honour in 2018.

Sunohara is dedicated to bettering others, and has spent her post-retirement years coaching others, first at the Hill Academy as the Co-Director of Women’s Hockey, and then as Head Coach for the Women’s Hockey Team at the University of Toronto. she has also frequently given her time to charitable organizations including as Spokesperson for Youth Serving Youth, and on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Sport Center Ontario.

She was appointed Honorary Lieutenant Colonel of The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada 11 September 2019.
