Schmidt, Albert Ernest

SL 162802 Rifleman Albert Ernest Schmidt was born 15 February 1940 and educated in Regina, Saskatchewan and enrolled in the Regular Army in October 1957.

After completing recruit training at The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada Regimental Depot, he was posted to 1st Battalion in Calgary. He later joined the 2nd Battalion in Germany and served with that battalion until his death.

He married the former Joanne Dunlop in August 1961.

Rifleman Schmidt died suddenly in a diabetic coma in the Colonel Memburn Pavilion in Edmonton on 23 April 1962.

At the time of his death he was a member of C Company. Prior to this he had been with the Signals Platoon.

He was buried with full military honours in the Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery, in his hometown of Regina.
