Captain C. J. Hampton, CD was a veteran of the Second World War and Korea and a qualified paratrooper.

He was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the 1st Battalion from September 1958 to July 1962. He then was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the Depot from July 1962 to 29 August 1965 after which time he was commissioned to Captain.
