WO1 George M Foster was the Regimental Sergeant Major of the 3rd (Active) Battalion Queen’s Own Rifles. The 3rd Battalion was raised on 21 May 1942 and was intended originally to train to become an active Battalion to go overseas. Many of the staff were brought from the 2nd (Reserve) Battalion of the Regiment in Toronto including Foster. The Battalion trained for the summer of 1942 in Niagara then was sent to Nova Scotia in September where it was used mostly for garrison duties. Under strength to begin with, by June 1943 most of the fit men had been sent as reinforcements to overseas Battalions and it was disbanded. It is not known where Foster ended up.
