Donald was born on January 12, 1925 in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Army on July 10, 1943. He served with the Queen’s Own Rifles and the Canadian Infantry Reinforcement Unit in Aldershot, England, Holland and Germany during World War II. He was discharged on September 12, 1947.
