
Chief Warrant Officer Robert Chan, CD was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to Canada in 1966.
In 1969 CWO Chan joined the 3rd Battalion, The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada. He qualified as a Junior and Senior NCO and was promoted to Sergeant in 1972.
In 1973 he joined the Regular British Army and was a Rifleman with the 2nd Battalion of The Royal Green Jackets. He served in the United Kingdom and Gibraltar and saw active service in South Armagh and West Belfast.
Chan returned to rejoin The Queen’s Own Rifles and served as training NCO, Platoon Warrant and Company Sergeant Major for the Training and Airborne Companies.
From 17 February 1985 to 22 February 1987 he served as Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM). During this time he also served as Camp RSM and umpire at a Milcon summer training exercise as well as course commander on recruit and leadership courses.
CWO Chan qualified as a parachutist at the Canadian Airborne Centre in Edmonton and has been awarded the Canadian Decoration and British General Service Medal with Northern Ireland clasp.
He is an enthusiastic sailor who has made the Atlantic crossing in a trimaran, is a world traveller and has done extensive travelling in Central America.
