Regimental Sergeant Major D. Cameron 83rd Battalion Toronto 1916

171970 WO1 Donald Cameron was born 12 September 1884 in Glasgow, Scotland.

He enlisted on 10 August 1915 and was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of the 83rd Battalion CEF (QOR) which was mobilized August 4, 1915. Its strength on leaving Canada was 35 officers, 1,085 other ranks with a previous draft sent on September 25, 1915 of 5 officers, 250 other ranks. The Battalion was disbanded in England June 4, 1917 with principal drafts going to the 3rd Battalion, 4th and 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles.

At the time of his enlistment, Cameron had 7 years previous service with the 4th Scottish Rifles and 15 months with the Royal Grenadiers.

He was demobilized on 6 April 1919.
