Chief Warrant Officer W. Roy E. Bruce, MMM, CD was born in 1930 in Montreal, Quebec and attended St. Patrick’s Boys School and Sir George Williams College.
After 4 years of training with the militia (Victoria Rifles of Canada) in 1951, he joined the regular force in the First Canadian Rifles and served with NATO in Germany. The First Canadian Rifles became the 1st Battalion, The Queen’s Own Rifles in 1954 and Bruce would serve as the Bugle Major from 1955 to 1962[?]
The QOR was re-badged Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in 1970. Roy served in Germany, Cyprus and Egypt and rose to Regimental Sergeant Major with 2 PPCLI. He retired from the Canadian Forces in 1986.
Roy married Joyce Allen and had two sons: Robert and David.
He passed away on 25 January 2007 and is buried in Pinecrest Cemetery, Ottawa – section 11.
