Ronald F. Beal was born on April 5, 1921 in Toronto, Ontario.
He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Army on September 9, 1939. He served with the Royal Regiment of Canada in Iceland, England, and France during World War II. He was taken prisoner of war in August 1942 as a result of the Dieppe raid and was held for 33 months. He was discharged in June 1945 after which he went to work for the Federal Government. He was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
In 1946, Ronald joined the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada as a Bugler.
