
Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Hugh Allan was born 31 December 1842 in Ontario, son of Reverend Daniel Allan and Margaret Macdonald. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1885 (the same year as fellow QOR John Andrew Forin.)
He died 18 September 1892 of Poresis.

- 1875 – On service during the Pilgrimage Riots
- 3 August 1883 – Promoted to Major
- 1885 – Served as Major in the Northwest Rebellion Field Force
- 5 February 1887 – Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and appointed Commanding Officer
- 30 August 1889 – Retired retaining rank
