One of the most valuable piece of kit for a Rifleman is your Rucksack. We've come along way since the 1860s! Here is new to the museum in 2022 a 1860s style knapsack which was made in 1867 and issued to Regimental Stores to be issued out of maneuvers. To keep its boxed shape wood insert were put in. This style of Knapsack was in use from 1860s to the late 1890s when the Canadian Military adopted the 1899 Canadian Oliver Pattern Equipment.

On May 25th 1863, the Lady Relatives and Friends of the Regiment presented a Regimental Mace at the Model School Grounds. This mace is still in the Regiment in the Regiments Officers mess. This was presented to the Regiment even though Rifle Regiments do not use Maces in the Band and Bugles.

Interested on what soldiers drank with? Here's a victorian era drinking tin cup. These were widely used in the victorian era and before. Also, Interesting that there's a crown stamp with VR on the bottom. It is also painted black to keep it from shining while out on campaign.

Throwback photos from an exchange with the PWRR in 2000. A Section from the Regiment went over and participated in mech infantry training.

One of our new acquisition this year is a pattern 1860 expense pouch. This was worn on the front right hip for ready use ammunition. Holding 10 rounds, a rag and a small oiler. Used by the Regiment when Sniders were adopted in 1868 worn until the adoption of the 1899 Oliver Pattern Leather equipment.

New acquisition at the museum. This is a dated 1862 rifles snake belt. The Regiment has worn snake belts it's whole existence. This is an interesting example due to the adjusting portion of the belt is on the internal portion and not with an adjuster buckle that goes around the whole belt.
