Rifleman Rajesh (Roger) Narin Gurung was born on 25 September 1959, the son of Hari and Satya Gurung.

He enlisted with The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada militia on 23 March 1977.

On 12 June 1977, while returning from an exercise, Gurung was riding in the back of a 2 1/2-ton army truck.  During the drive down the Don Valley Parkway, the driver lost control and the truck struck the guard rail and a highway lamp post which fell on the frame of the truck. Pieces of the frame struck Gurung in the head and he died, aged 17.

He was later cremated.
