B127791 Lance Corporal William Davies was born in Toronto on 6 February 1917, the son of railway worker George Davies and Gertrude Brockbank (died 12 September 1944.) He completed three high school years and belonged to the United Church of Canada.
He had one older brother B623238 George Brockbank Davies who was a Signalman with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals and an older sister Gertrude Olive.
Davies enlisted (B602332) on 15 May 1942 for training in Brantford under the National Resources Mobilization Act with the Brockville Rifles (Militia.) Transferred to the Brockville Rifles (Active Service) on 17 December 1942 and allotted Regimental No. B127791. He was working at Grinnell Co. Ltd as an assistant timekeeper. He was 5 foot 8 3/4 inches tall, weighed 150 pounds, and had a fair complexion with brown eyes and hair.
After further postings in Nanaimo and Kingston, Davies arrived in the United Kingdom on 31 March 1943. posted to the Queen’s Own Rifles on 10 June 1943 and landed on Juno Beach on D-Day, 6 June 1944. He was promoted to Lance Corporal on 20 June 1944.
Lance Corporal Davies was killed in action near Boulogne on 20 September 1944, age 27 and is buried in the Calais Canadian War Cemetery, grave reference 6. A. 11.
His war gratuity and final pay amounts were split between his sister, brother and father.
