Bressette, Lloyd Henry

B115198 Rifleman Lloyd Henry Bressette was born on 20 June 1924 in Kettle Point Indian Reserve near Ravenswood, Ontario, the son of Archie W. and Bertha Alma Bressette. He had six brothers and two sisters, and he left public school at age 14.

Bressette worked as a labourer at Camp Ipperwash, Ontario when he enlisted with the Active Service Army on 12 August 1943, and trained at Brantford and Camp Borden.

He arrived in the UK on 12 April 1944 and was posted to the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders, then transferred to The Queen’s Own Rifles on 9 June 1944.

Rifleman Bressette was killed in action on 18 July 1944, aged 20.  He is buried in Beny-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery, grave reference XV. E. 10.

His grave marker has the inscription”

“MY HEAVENLY HOME
IS BRIGHT AND FAIR
NO RAIN OR DEATH
CAN ENTER THERE” MOM

Bressette is also memorialized on the National Métis Veteran’s Memorial at Batoche, Sasketchewan.
