Lloyd Stewart Bond was born on 7 September 1941, the son of John “Jack” Arthur Bond and Mina Victoria McClaren.
Lloyd joined the Queen’s Own Rifles at Camp Borden, Ontario, where he was awarded “Best Soldier” after completing a Junior Non-Commissioned Officers course. During his service, Lloyd also participated in peacekeeping in Cyprus.
Lloyd married Heather Edwards in 1966 and moved to Victoria, British Columbia, where he started his custodian career with the Sooke School Board. After working at many schools, he earned his position as Head Custodian. He was friends with staff and students alike. Lloyd took pride in attacking the broom along Esquimalt Lagoon, spearheading the campaign to eliminate it and restore the area to its natural environment.
After Heather’s passing, Lloyd met Louise. They spent many years together, continuing to volunteer at the JDF Seniors Centre, working in the kitchen and enjoying the dances.
Lloyd died in Victoria, British Columbia on 20 March 2025 and is buried in Hatley Memorial Gardens in Victoria.
