This was an interesting group. Captain Mercer would become rise to the rank of Major General during the First World War, Commanding the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division and becoming the most senior Canadian Officer to be killed in action to this day when he died in Flanders in 1916.
As Lieutenant Colonel, Captain Rennie would command the 3rd Battalion during the start of the First World War before being promoted Brigadier and commanding the 4th Division. Soon after the war he rose to the rank of Major General. He would also serve as Honorary Lieutenant Colonel and Honorary Colonel in late 30’s and 1940s.
Captain Peuchen was a Major when he became a survivor of the sinking of the Titanic. Because of the “women and children first” expectation his courage and reputation were significantly challenged in the ensuing press.
Captain Barker would command the QOR’s 95th Battalion in the First World War.
Captain Mitchell would command the 166th (QOR) Battalion in the First World War.
Captain Royce would command the 255th (QOR) Battalion in the First World War and reach the rank of Colonel and Commanding Officer of the Queen’s Own Rifles in the early 1920s.
