He enlisted in the Regular Army 4 January 1960 at London, Ontario, and completed his recruit training with the Regimental Depot in Calgary 23 April 1960. He was posted to the 1st Battalion and west to Germany with this unit 5 October 1960.
He was a quiet unassuming soldier who was well thought of by all who knew him. At the time of his death 17 May 1962, in an unfortunate automobile accident, he was employed in the headquarters of B Company.
He was survived by his wife, Georgina, and two children Linda-Gail and Wendy.
He was buried in the Werl Military Cemetery 21 May 1962 with full military honours.
